1. Ensure appropriate copyright notices are used (e.g. © 2003 Owner, Inc. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.).
2. Apply for registration of valuable works, before they are published or no later than three months following the first publication.
3. Register valuable works where recovery of damages is important or proof of damages from infringement might be difficult.
4. Review agreements with consultants and other parties collaborating in the creation of significant aspects of any work to ensure ownership, assignment of rights and related interests are properly addressed before collaboration begins.
